Cad line around the building is automatic; "make (exterior) room polyline" tool. Create the line in one step, and then set the line weight.
The edge line for elevations can easily be handled in layout with the "edit layout" tool. You can shift select around the elevation for the lines or groups of lines that you want to emphasize. This is best done when nearing completion of the con docs, as you can lose these changes if the elevation or section changes.

Bill,
Can you make (exterior) room around an elevation.

No, that's why elevations and sections must be done with the "edit layout" tool; Which takes more time; but allows me to have several line weights for the building outline. We can use shift select and marque select to speed up the process. Careful use of the edge line defaults, and the pattern defaults can also be helpful here. Wendy has explained her methods in some older posts. It was part of her process to get away from other cad. I think it is Wendy's contention that it is far easier to edit in Chief than to resort to other cad.
Chief is far more capable than most people give it credit for. Most people don't fully understand the tool set we already have.

This thread is about profile lines in section/elevation. I add cad lines in layout and edge line defaults. There is no tool in CA. that gives an outside line automagically.

Hi William,
I don't think edge lines in elevation/section could be done entirely automatically, as it is a subjective (artistic) decision to decide what will have hard emphasis, and what will have lesser emphasis. I know that the editing I do in Chief is a lot faster than the editing I do in other cad, and I can't think a good reason, (other than not understanding the tools I already have at my disposal) to scrap live elevations and sections.
