Pitched Coffered Ceiling
I'm trying to make one of these, molding won't appear on pitched soffits, at least for me. Anyone else have this problem?
I've made molding polylines instead, but I can't pitch the horizontal members to match the miter of the vertical members. What am I missing?

H'mm Adam, I don't know. Seems like you're the only one who's ever tried a pitched, coffered ceiling. Good luck!
-
Adam,
You didn't have any luck with "ceiling planes"?
-
Nope. I'm hoping someone will chime in here. I'm stumped.

i just made my first sloped ceiling that was 6/12 while the outside was 10/12, you are way past my area of comfort so maybe some late nighter while chime in... good luck

Chief does not allow moldings on sloped soffits. This has always been the case but I'm not sure whether I would consider it a "limitation" or a "bug". In either case, the soffit probably is not the tool you want to use.
Having not tried to do this before, I can't say what method would work best. You might try using the new 3D molding polyline tool that is in V10. There are probably other methods that might work and some of our more creative posters might have better suggestions.

If this is what you are referring to, it can be done using 3d molding p-lines and custom molding profiles...v10.06a...

Tim, as usual, you've nailed it. However, what steps did you take to rotate? Did you create the entire ceiling and then rotate? How?
-
Darn it, Tim! Do you have to go to work? Can't you just be online all the time?
-
it is easy to do once I figured out how I wanted to proceed...
rather than trying to explain it in words, see if this helps

Tim,
Your adeptness is surpassed only by your generosity.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Tim:
I think CA needs you to teach for 3 days solid at the next Users' Meeting - we all could benefit from your knowledge. I would even offer to furnish the DOnuts you would need to keep you going.
Thanks for all your posts!

Thanks to Tim I was able to make this coffered, pitched ceiling. Not sure about the drywall strip on the bottom of the attic wall though.
Can't spray paint it; I get a message saying you can't paint the side of platform. I changed the color of both the attic wall and the invisible wall in the dbx. Any ideas?

Here's a better view of the weird strip.

Adam,
Shot in the dark. Go to Default Settings,Materials,General Materials,Walls (Interior) Soffits and change the material.
