Does anyone know of a way of creating 3D signs for a commercial building. Starbucks or KFC for example. I can do it in 2D but don't know how in 3D. Also does anyone one have a good library for commercial details?

You can make signs however you want. I used two polyline solids for this. A bit easy. Assign an image of what you want.
If you can do it in 2D, then you can start by "extruding" those 2D shapes via a polyline solid in Chief. But Sketchup is wonderful for this as they have automatic 3D text too, among other modelling features.
EDIT: Tommy, Bingo, you beat me. Just take that image now, trace some more lines over it, and "extrude" more depth out of the shapes/images.
You can also assign lights to letters.
Here's an example of using 3d lettering in the Chief library for a sign. This was originally done with a stage symbol I made.
download Elefont, it is free

Nice work Tommy, that lit sign could have been from the rock musical. :)
Just for fun, here's a lit sign I did recently for a client. This was done using Sketchup's 3D text but Elefont will work for this too. Rendered in Kerkythea.
